SCAM WARNING – NORTH WALES We are warning the public about a rise in EE/O2 contract scams and courier fraud affecting residents across North Wales.
How the scam works:
Victims receive a call, text or email claiming to be from EE/O2 or another trusted organisation. They are offered a free gift or they are told their account has been compromised or that an expensive contract or upgrade has been taken out in their name. The caller may sound convincing and may already have some of your personal details. You are then told a courier will collect your phone, bank card or other items to “secure” them. This is always a scam.
! Important to remember:
EE/O2, banks, police and other legitimate organisations will never ask you to hand over devices, bank cards, PINs or passwords. They will never send a courier to collect items from your home. Scammers often create urgency to stop you checking the story.
Protect yourself:
Do not share personal or banking details. Hang up and contact the organisation directly using a trusted number. Never hand items to a courier sent after an unexpected call. Talk to friends, family and neighbours – especially elderly or vulnerable people.
If you believe you’ve been contacted or affected:
Report scams to Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online. If a scam is happening right now, call 999.
